| K7 Computing
was started in 1991 in a small room of an apartment. There were
two programmers who shared a rented computer and wrote the first
version of the software. |
In
1992 the first DOS based Antivirus software
called Vx2000 was released. It was sold mostly in Chennai and parts
of Tamil Nadu. |
| In 1993, K7 co-developed
for Cybermedia Inc. USA, an Automatic Rescue Utility called PC 911. This
helped Cybermedia grow from a startup to a 20 Million dollar company
that was finally acquired by Network Associates (developers of Mcafee)
in 2001. |
| In 1994, K7 developed
the first NLM Antivirus software. It sold fairly well in India. Over
the next two years, Vx2000 was adding new features like "generic
decryption engine" for highly polymorphic viruses and Macrolite
for curing macro viruses. |
| By 2001 there was
a core development team of 15 people and more than 60 people in sales
and support across India. Vx2000 had sold more than 70,000 copies
across India. |
| In 2001, we realized
that the personalized sales and support model was unviable and management
forced us to downsize and maintain only a core development team of 10 people and 4 person sales and support team. Vx2000 still had a small but loyal user base in Tamil Nadu, India. |
| By 2002, things
looked quite bleak, but we did not give up hope. We knew we had a
great product and it was only a matter of time. We put our heads down
and started working on an integrated security solution called Total
Security. The new product had an antivirus, firewall, privacy and
anti-spam features. It had the fastest engine amongst all the competitors. |
| In 2003, Sourcenext,
Japan's fastest growing software publishing company entered into a strategic partnership with K7 Computing. "Virus Security", the Japanese version of the product was launched by Sourcenext in Japan. |
| By 2004, Virus
Security was one of Japan's largest selling off-the-shelf software
products. In 2004, it won the Proregi Award for the fastest selling
product in the security segment in Japan. |
| 2006 - Virus Security
has established itself as one of the leading security products with
a 24% market share in Japan. It has more than 3.0 Million users. |
| December 14, 2006
- K7 and Sourcenext launch an upgrade called Virus Security 2006 in
Japan. K7 Computing launches the English version of the product called
K7 TotalSecurity 2006 in India. |
